shoot a scene.  The film is set in 1880.

Although JULIE's character, Billie Ellis, was a

dance hall singer, shots like this were used

only for publicity and JULIE never actually

wore any of the dance hall singer costumes

in the film itself.  In fact, the closest viewers

ever came to seeing Billie inside the dance

hall was in the opening scene when she

came out the door and headed out of town.

Interestingly enough, these dance hall

singer shots were used ten years later

when JULIE played Julia Saxon, a singer accused of murder, in the "They Called

Her Delilah" episode of The Big Valley.

Look for them on the signboard that stands

outside the door of the music hall in Stockton.

JULIE's "strip" scene --- the first of its kind in a

western --- received a great deal of publicity

with the film often billed as "the most adult

western of all."  What went unsaid, however,

was that before JULIE took off any of her

clothing, she had to put on undergarments,

stockings, a blouse, jacket, skirt and overskirt

as well as four petticoats, pantaloons, and shoes.

When interviewed about the scene, JULIE said

she thought "it was in context and story line,

and didn't take on any connotations of being

unnecessarily sexy."  She added, "If you

thought I was sexy in it, then thanks."
